What are Learning Circles?

Learning Circles are participatory, collaborative knowledge exchanges that use interactive small group-based discussions for global health professionals to discuss what works and what doesn’t in family planning and reproductive health programming.

Topic

Climate change is intricately linked with sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and gender equality. Efforts to address climate change must include SRHR considerations and recognize and address systems of inequality, including racist and colonial roots of SRHR access and climate change impacts. The worsening climate crisis disrupts SRHR services, especially for marginalized groups. Yet, solutions often focus on individual actions rather than systemic changes needed for significant impact.

Addressing SRHR alongside climate change promotes resilience, health, and economic well-being. It recognizes women's rights as integral to systemic solutions to climate-related inequalities. Within the region, there has been varying  SRHR and Climate resilience and adaptation practices  highlighting the need for a platform to engage the member states on what has worked and what has not worked. Learning Circles platform provides a  unique opportunity to facilitate transparent participatory peer-to-peer dialogue, learning, and networking among SRHR and Climate change professionals working in similar contexts within  East, Central, and Southern African Health Community (ECSA- HC).
