What are Learning Circles?

Learning Circles are participatory, collaborative knowledge exchanges that use interactive small group-based discussions for global health professionals to discuss what works and what doesn’t in family planning and reproductive health programming.

Topic

Nurses and midwives are vital in postpartum family planning (PPFP) by seamlessly incorporating counseling into routine care, particularly during antenatal care (ANC) and immunization visits. Their ongoing presence in healthcare facilities enables them to provide personalized guidance, ensuring women are empowered to make informed family planning decisions during the critical postpartum period. In addition to facility-based counseling, nurses and midwives collaborate with community health workers (CHWs) to engage communities through culturally sensitive approaches, which are essential in addressing barriers such as stigma and limited awareness. By educating women and families about the benefits of PPFP, they help to foster broader acceptance and reduce misconceptions, ultimately improving maternal and child health outcomes.

During this Learning Circles cohort, participants will be focused on the topic of, Strategies by Nurses and Midwives to Effectively Reduce Maternal Mortality in Rural Communities through Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP).
